Nearly 7,500 teachers and research professors work in 180 public research laboratories and 5,000 researchers in private research.<br \/>\nThe Grand Est ranks 5th among French regions in terms of the number of researchers<\/p>\n<p>In the Grand Est, <a class=\"link_external\" href=\"https:\/\/en.unistra.fr\/\">the University of Strasbourg<\/a> is the 1st French university outside of the Paris region in the Shanghai ranking. The quality and excellence of the research have been distinguished by the award of four Nobel prizes still in activity (chemistry and medicine) and a Kavli prize in the nanosciences. In addition, the <a class=\"link_external\" href=\"http:\/\/welcome.univ-lorraine.fr\/en\">University of Lorraine<\/a> has been approved as an I-site under the PIA (Programme Investissements d\u2019Avenir \/ Future Investments Programme). <a class=\"link_external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utt.fr\/\">The University of Technology of Troyes<\/a>, <a class=\"link_external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.univ-reims.eu\/\">the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne<\/a> and<a class=\"link_external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uha.fr\/\"> the University of Haute Alsace<\/a> complement the research ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>The quality of the research and the scientific pluridisciplinarity bring together more than 5,200 doctoral students whose training is supervised by 21 doctoral schools attached to universities. In Strasbourg, half of the doctoral students are international.<\/p>\n<h2>Conducting your research project in the Grand Est<\/h2>\n<p>To attract top-level talent and researchers, the Region supports two international programmes.<\/p>\n<h4>The Gutenberg Chairs Programme<\/h4>\n<p>An annual call for projects, which in 2018 enabled financing 6 Chairs, at the rate of \u20ac60k per Chair, is distributed by the Universities. Its aim is to attract top-level foreign researchers, offering them the means to form a team and to carry out an ambitious project whose visible impact is expected (all disciplinary fields are eligible).<\/p>\n<h4>The Fulbright Programme \u2013 R\u00e9gion Grand Est<\/h4>\n<p>The Fulbright programme is the most prestigious American international exchange programme. Among the winners are 53 Nobel Prize winners and 78 Pulitzer Prize winners.<br \/>\nFunded in large part by the Department of State, it is an important tool in US bilateral relations with 155 countries.<\/p>\n<p>The Fulbright &#8211; R\u00e9gion Grand Est partnership is based on the reception and departure of American researchers and those from the Grand Est in research laboratories for stays of up to 12 months.
